Very true, but its the old 'cute and fluffy syndrome again'if you ask me,there's countless species extinct and severley endangered right here in this country. We need to not forget these too.

Seahorses are as cute and cuddly as fish get Dave but point made.

One question here, they kept mentioning that he uses Dublin tapwater plus salt. Is this just one of those attention grabbing things they have to mention to keep people interested or is Keelan actually using water straight from the tap?

Agree with you here,Dave plenty of our own birds and animals are in danger, that's my point. We seem only to be happy killing them off whether through neglect of our environment or blatant shooting or snaring or even fishing! I remember as a youngster rarely seeing the kestrel yet now is far more common yet still delights me seeing it hover over head looking for some poor mouse as I drive along.Sometimes it's only when we see the predicament these animals are facing will something will be done and fair play to Keelan for doing this.Sometimes we need to make a mark on this earth and that's Keelan's mark.I have a five year old son and hope when he grows up that these animals are still around

agree there where two pairs of eagles put up in the wicklow mountains..that where killed..
they where in the flight path of racing pigeons coming in from england and wales.they where shot.
heard this from a man who has a large stock of pigeon.

What I was getting at was there are so many we dont hear of,because they're not the lions, snow leopards, pandas,of the mammal world,or the eagles, kestrels, etc of the bird world,or the seahorses, etc of the fish world, but theres plenty of flora and fauna we dont take any notice of,like the Marsh Fritillary(an endangered butterfly),or the Meadow Saffron(a critically endangered plant). They're all important, but aint necesarily big, fluffly and cute. It's folk like Kealan who pick out an example and do their darndest to help, and in doing so,bring it to the attention of the public, and to those that can do something to help the species.
And for this they should be recognised, and helped as much as we can.I can think of many places where govt funds are totally wasted, and should be channelled into such worthy causes.

Member of a pigeon club told me he'll shoot/poision birds of prey to protect his birds and local fishermen will kill seals as they 'eat' fish. There is no easy solution but the law of the land is the law of the land and if not protected will be too late as once they're gone it's over.Otters seem to be making a come back here and have seen several red squirrels but that can all change .Maybe when we are living in a bleak and barren landscape then we be happy - BANG<BANG didn't think so

there are too many seals around the Irish coast. Same goes for cormorants and Canada geese. All protected species and there was a point in protecting them about twenty years ago but there is a surplus stock now.

As for racing pigeons. Ah well, they don't look any different than ordinary pigeons and taste pretty much the same...
