Advice On Next Buy

Postby Sayers on Tue Jul 27, 2010 11:20 am

Just wondering if I could pick some people's brains about what I would like to do. Since I'm really only learning the ropes on fish handling, I'm wondering what size you fine folks would advise me to go for next. At the minute I have a tiny 14 litre but would like to go bigger. Due to lack of money, I kinda only want to keep some cold water fish, Common Goldfish, Commet Goldfish, Shubunkin ect, so I can enjoy them without having to break the bank to have a hobbie. Would only have six or seven fish at a time so what size of tank should I be looking at and what should I be looking to put into it?

Cheers.

remember bigger is better, 7-8 gold fish will produce a lot of waste, i would be inclined to look at a tank oof about 250 litres upwards, but really they should be going into a pond, unless you are talking about some of the more ornamental varieties of goldfish
open the window there please, just to let the bull@h1t out.... thanks

there are 1000s of other freshwater fish you can keep in a medium sized tank.have you gone looking yet maby get a book out from the libriary and have a look to see what you like the look of then youll be right on track!
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

thats a hard one to answer.
i suppose the first thing you should do is to see what size tank you can afford(along with equipment to suit)
its easier to keep a large volume of water stable then a small bowl..check the trading section as there is some great bargains come along.
after that consider if you afford the tropical or coldwater there isnt much difference apart from the temp.
when you have that done we can narrow things down for or if there is anything you see and like just run it by the members on the forum and they will send you in the right direction as dos and donts.
take your time and this can be a great hobby

What I'd really love is a couple of axolotls but quite expensive so would like to get a few cheeper guys just to see if I can look after them before investing in my favouite freak of nature.

See, I'm kinda dull when it comes to fish too. I love the colours of Shubunkin and Barbs, Love how active Tetras can be and love watching Weather Loaches go ape s**te when the weather changes (cruel I know but it's funny!). My Girlfriend loves all the mad tropical fish so I'm sure she'll have an input to this too!
