Celebes halfbeaks

Postby upthedeise on 13 Feb 2010 19:38

Hi all

I have a breeding shoal of Celebes Halfbeaks.

2 males
4 females

One of the males was more dominant than the other, so much so that the other male usually hid in a corner. They are both of similar size.
In the last few days they have changed roles and now the one that was dominant is now cowering in a corner.
I have seen them fighting on occasion.
I am just wondering is this role reversal unusual.

Not really sure - they are a bugger to breed and unlike many other livebearers birth their fry one at a time over a period of hours. I raised a couple about ten years ago purely by accident in a heavily planted species tank.

I have quite a number of fry at the moment . Very interesting fish, Much more so than the usual livebearers.
