IFAS Inter-club Show - Sunday, September 4th, 2011

Postby KenS on 12 Aug 2011 17:29

Hi,

The LFKS will host the first annual IFAS inter-club show in Campion's Pub, Malahide Road on Sunday, September 4th. We have a room reserved upstairs.

Benching will commence at 12.30 p.m. and judging will begin at 1.30 p.m. sharp. We plan to finish up around 5.00 p.m. Classes will be determined closer to the date when we have an idea of the types of fish being benched. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each class and also a trophy for the overall winning club.

Tanks will be provided, but you will need to bring your own water. It's vital that you bring enough water to bench your fish as there will be NO water available on site.

Please note that this event is only open to IFAS affiliated club members and only fully paid up club members may attend (that includes viewing if you're not benching). This is a closed show in order to avoid the need for public liability insurance. However, if you do want to participate or attend, there's plenty of time to join your local club of choce.

Please post below if you plan to bench fish. We will need details of numbers, type of fish and size.
Regards,

Ken

Most of my fish are probably too young to bench.
I will be benching three Mbuna still though. I cannot bench my Synos as they are hybrids but I could bench
a few Lucipinnis.

This event is less than two weeks away,if you would like to enter fish and are a paid up club member of either of the 3 clubs, please post what your planning on entering here.

If your not a paid up club member, there's still plenty of time to join up before the 4th of September,if only to just come and have a look, and meet up.

Am i wasting my time benching a calvus and two types of Julies?

Absolutely not!

Calvus and Julidochromis would stand a decent chance, especially your fellas. Tangs don't exactly show bad, it's just from a judging point of view they can be marked down very easily compared to other fish. Derek Doyle is the man to explain this in more detail. Maybe he might come on here and help us out a bit?

In the last few years I have seen the following win best in show (Ireland or England):

Discus, Mbuna, Lno Plec, Livebearer

I don't know of a Tang cichlid ever winning best in show, surely there must have been one?

If I had to guess I'd say some of these might stand a chance, if full grown and in good general condition, as they are aggressive fish they hold themselves very well in the water and quite often flare their fins:

L. Tetracanthus, L. Tretacephalus, L. Kendalii, L. Brevis, L Occelatus, N. Caudopunctatus

Catfish usually fare well so these guys might do well if full grown:

Synodontis Multipunctatus, Petricola, Granulosis or Lucipinnis,

This is Tomorrow folks..

You can become a member of the club on the day for €10 but if you plan on showing fish we need to know in advance so we can have a tank available.
