Splitting toadstool coral?

Postby JennyF on 02 Jul 2011 23:30

So I've noticed my toadstool has started to 'spilt' around 3 days ago, didn't think much of it. It's still growing larger and I'm getting a lot of polyp extension. but the stalk seems to be splitting into two with the top of the toadstool going from a circle to a pac man shape (only way to describe it  )

So is this good or bad? If you need a picture I'll get one when it's poplyps go in tonight it's a lot easier to see.

Paremeters are good just need to do a water change, surely if there was something wrong with the coral though it would stop growing and I wouldn't see as much polyp extension?

Jenny its a form of reproducing which is a great thing. Wish mine would split :(
Toadstools can also reproduce by dropping buds and trailing.
Your doing something right, fair play

Try get a pic up if you can jenny,

My toadstool was doing something similar a while back but it was only changing shape as such. Never seen one split in half just drop buds.

Does this mean it will split and become 2?

Yeh Paul, toadstools can split from the stalk right up to the head and become two.

That's pretty much what it's doing, the spilt is going further and further down each day, it's now almost half way down the stalk. Stalk is around .... 6/7 inches

Thats great Jenny.

Quick tip, you could cut that the rest of the way and have two now, it wouldnt effect the toadstool at all!

I would cut the rest of the way but I'm was in a car crash there a week ago which resulted in my breaking my sternum, so I can barely move never mind work in a tank, I'll just have to let nature take its course unfortunatly!
