I'm a total newbie to keeping any type of fish - Ive never even had goldfish!! So of course me being me, I took the most logical route and dived straight into marine fish keeping. I bought a 94 litre tank last Feb/March from the lovely people at Seahorse Aquariums and proceeded to follow their advice on cycling and stocking the tank. All went well most of the time, with a few casualties along the way. But of course I learnt from my mistakes and I now have a very happy tank with two beautiful seahorses, two clowns, one firefish, one royal gramma, various inverts including snails, hermit crabs (and a green emerald crab), starfish and peppermint shrimp, and as of an hour ago - a Bangaii cardinal! Marine keeping is definitely a bug and I have certainly been bitten by it. I absolutely love my tank and all my lovely pets within it
I have two questions though that maybe you could give me some reassurance/advice. My Royal gramma appears quite vicious and sometimes goes towards my other fish with her mouth wide open - it's absolutely huge! Is this normal behaviour by royal grammas to intimidate tank mates? My second question is the compartment containing the thermostat inside it has recently been colonised by small white gooey deposits - are these harmful to my aquarium?
Cheers,
Ali
