Hey :)

Hi,
I'm a total newbie to keeping any type of fish - Ive never even had goldfish!! So of course me being me, I took the most logical route and dived straight into marine fish keeping. I bought a 94 litre tank last Feb/March from the lovely people at Seahorse Aquariums and proceeded to follow their advice on cycling and stocking the tank. All went well most of the time, with a few casualties along the way. But of course I learnt from my mistakes and I now have a very happy tank with two beautiful seahorses, two clowns, one firefish, one royal gramma, various inverts including snails, hermit crabs (and a green emerald crab), starfish and peppermint shrimp, and as of an hour ago - a Bangaii cardinal! Marine keeping is definitely a bug and I have certainly been bitten by it. I absolutely love my tank and all my lovely pets within it :)
I have two questions though that maybe you could give me some reassurance/advice. My Royal gramma appears quite vicious and sometimes goes towards my other fish with her mouth wide open - it's absolutely huge! Is this normal behaviour by royal grammas to intimidate tank mates? My second question is the compartment containing the thermostat inside it has recently been colonised by small white gooey deposits - are these harmful to my aquarium?
Cheers,
Ali

Welcome to the forum mate

Any pictures of the bugs you speak of.

Make sure you keep your fish stock small with small fish and as far as the blenny goes its a threat to the other inhabitants.

Best of luck

Paul

wow, I wasn't aware you could keep all that tank stock in 90ish lt of water? I am sure you must take your water changes and top ups very seriously to make this work.love to see a pic of your set up?
Oh heavens..Shes in a right pickle now. As maybelle prepared dinner she unwittingly opened a can of whoop ass.

Thank you :) Yeah I'm not going to put in any other fish. Im very protective over my seahorses and theyre my main concern as theyre so fragile. I loved them so much I got my first tattoo a few months ago of a seahorse on my wrist! And which fish is a blenny?!

Is it possible that the goo could be calcium deposits or something? Or organisms using calcium in their make-up? Will post pics of the goo and the tank/fish as soon as I manage to locate my camera! Thanks for all the advice, dont be afraid to tell me what you think - even if its bad!!

welcome to the forum,
one of the best things you could do here is post a list of all the kit in your setup, your care routine, for example how often you do water changes, do you buy your water, make up your own etc, plus a full list of the livestock in the tank, and LOTS of pictures for us all to look at!!, really though if you can post pictures some of the marine keepers will be much better able to give good advice, a picture as they say is worth a thousand words
